Will This Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge New Ride Be 28 Minutes Long?

Like it or not Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will change both Disneyland and Walt Disney World forever. The multi-million dollar expansion at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios parks will shape the new future of rides and immersive theming around the world. As we get closer to the opening of these lands (Disneyland in summer 2019, Walt Disney World in late fall 2019) more details are slowly coming to light about the two blockbuster attractions.

SPOILER WARNING: If you do not wish to read potential spoilers about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge do not read any further! This is your only warning!

Today we’re focusing on “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance”, the “dark ride” in Galaxy’s Edge. Attractions Magazine has been gathering details from anonymous sources regarding the storyline of the ride, but clearly states that “Unless where otherwise noted, the following is rumor and speculation, and should not be regarded as fact unless confirmed by the companies mentioned.” Here are some of the highlights:

The Pre-show

In concept art and in phyiscal models we’ve seen a blue transport ship. Attractions believes that guests will be loaded into the ship as part of the pre-show, which will be rather lengthy. At some point the transfer ship will be captured by the First Order, bringing you to the main storyline of the attraction and the largest of all the show buildings.

Once off the transport ship Attractions says you will be in a massive hangar area “Complete with animatronic stormtroopers, TIE fighters and a picturesque view of space. ” After this area you will herded into First Order prison cells, then to the main ride vehicles (seen below).

A still frame from the Disney teaser video for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance shows the ride vehicles

The Ride

It’s at this point that you are loaded into one of two trackless vehicles that will be buddies. You will stick with your buddy vehicle for almost the entire ride. Highly themed sets are the backdrop for this ride that will rely heavily on physical sets and animatronics.

Shortly after the ride starts you’ll come into contact with rogue droids, stormtroopers, and even Kylo Ren! That is, of course, before you come face to face with GIANT AT-ATs. If you haven’t seen any photos of the AT-ATs, they are truly life size. Then you separate from your buddy vehicle to go up an elevator to the “second” floor. After whizzing down a hallway and meeting up with your buddies, you’ll be taken to an area where two animatronics (Kylo Ren and possibly General Hux) are discussing the resistance.

This is when the action happens. After seeing the massive gun power the ship has, you run into Kylo Ren again, and he’s definitely not happy. This scene is action packed and will definitely be one of the most intense moments of the ride. The only thing that could be more intense would be a Tower of Terror-style drop, right?

Another still from the same video shows Stormtroopers standing under one of the ship’s main guns.

The Drop

Here’s where it gets interesting. Your vehicle will maneuver its way into an “escape pod”. Attractions states that the pod is actually an elevator that will drop the ride vehicle from the highest point. The walls of the elevator shaft will be lined with high-end screens and “will make guests feel as though they just shot off into space.”

After the drop you and your buddy vehicle will crash land in an old warehouse, where the unload area is.

Luckily the Resistance will come to your aid and save you from a sticky situations!

So? What do you think? Will you be riding Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance the day it opens? Let us know in the comments if you think the ride will live up to the hype (and wait time!).
