New Security Measures Coming Soon To Disney Parks

Disney Parks Brace For New Security Rules

As happy families everywhere start to pack their bags for a summer full of fun, the Walt Disney Co. has announced plans for further increases in security in their theme parks. The first of these measures will start in two weeks and will take effect in all six US based theme parks.

In 2015 Disney added metal detectors to the entrances of its parks, guests are randomly screened prior to entering the turnstile area. This security measure added to the bag check which started shortly after 9/11. The bag check is currently performed on all guest bags prior to entering the park.

In addition to the metal detectors, Disney also banned Selfie Sticks, costumes for adults, masks, swords and toy guns in 2015. They also stopped selling toy guns in the parks. These guns have been a popular purchase for boys since the park opened in 1971.

As of April 14th, guests entering Disney parks in California and Florida will be required to surrender all liquid filled containers. This includes water bottles, soda bottles, prepackaged juices and other beverage containers. One exception will be expressed milk for breast fed babies under the age of 2 years. For guests having special medical needs, a drop-off of medically necessary beverages can prearranged though Guest Services.

“We continue to place guest security at the top of our list when it comes to introducing new security measures in the parks,” stated Joe Fox, a Disney spokesperson. Mr. Fox continued, “We have decided to give our guests a two week notice in order to allow for guests to rearrange their plans. In addition, we are offering a $.50 per bottle discount on all waters purchased in the parks to help defer any costs to our guests for the next year.”

As always, guests are welcome to ask for a glass of water, at no cost, at any quick service location, as well as enjoy any one of the chilled water fountains throughout the parks.

Further security plans will be released throughout April as they gear up for a Disney Summer!

Disney Is Magic In Any Language

The Mansfield Speaks Their Own Language With Disne

One of the thing I truly enjoy about Disney is how they reach out to every guest in their own way. Even those who feel separated from the world they live in can be reached though the power of Disney Magic. Watch the video below and see how Minnie reaches the hearts of these two precious kids.

I remember the days when working at the Festival Of The Lion King at Animal Kingdom when I would get to see the signing performers. They would not just stand their like you see on TV and sign, to them this was a performance. They were in with the show and watching them was just as exciting as the show itself.

One day I ran into one of them after the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Hollywood Studios. I asked her about what she does and found out some interesting facts. I didn’t know, but they are an outside vendor that Disney hires. They also do performances for Sea World and Universal. They are only in the parks a few days a week, so guests with hearing disabilities need to check with guest relations prior to their trip to make sure they can see all the shows.

So Many Cool Adventures Coming Your Way at Disney

8-19-2015 10-42-44 AM

I am so excited to hear the new adventures coming your way at the Disney Parks and Resorts. Not only will we be getting a Star Wars Land in Florida, but also one in California. Bringing Star Wars to life will be a huge expansion for the Disney and Star Wars partnership.

Coming next year will be an all new Sorin’ Over The World. This magical journey will add to the Sorin’ Over California adventure in both parks.

Toy Story Land will be making a big expansion to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With the current expansion of Toy Story Mania opening later this year, we can expect lots of cool adventures to come, including an Andy sized room where you are made to feel like a toy.

Disney will continue to integrate the Marvel brand into the parks as they are working on an Iron Man ride.

Of course, lets not forget the coming Avatar Land opening in the coming years. This high tech adventure will make you feel like you are on Pandora.

runDisney Frozen Princess 5K – Princess Half Marathon Weekend

frozen family 5k princess half marathon weekend If you have been paying any attention lately to the world of Disney, you will have noticed that Frozen has been a mad success. So much of a success, that Frozen has taken control of almost the entire Hollywood Studios Park for the entire summer. The Frozen Summer Fun includes a special sing-a-long with Anna and Elsa, a parade, a Frozen Funland and a special Frozen Fireworks to cap off the day.

Frozen merchandise has been flying off the shelves and the lines to see the Frozen Duo Anna and Elsa has been crazy, sometime reaching 5 hours.

For the inaugural Enchanted 10K during last year’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend, Elsa even made a special appearance at the beginning of the race.

Each year for the Princess Half Marathon, they change up the Princess 5K with a different princess. Recently they have renamed it from the Royal Family 5K to the Princess 5K. Last year it was Cinderella, in 2011 it was Mickey and Minnie Royal Family 5K. This year, could it be the Frozen 5K. Signs are there, but there is no telling, as runDisney keeps their races quiet until they are ready to Let It Go. We are also thinking that there is a possibility of the Enchanted 10K becoming the Frozen 10K, but this seems a bit less likely.

Have fun racing and don’t forget that this week marks the opening of registration for the Princess Half Marathon Weekend!

Indiana Jones and Idol Out, Star Wars In… Big Changes Happening at Hollywood Studios

Big rumors are spreading like wildfire around about the possibilities of a new Star Wars Land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With the recent announcement by Disney stating that the American Idol Experience will be closing in January 2015, combined with the rumor from that the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular will be closing around the same time.

At statement form the Walt Disney World Company:

“After more than five successful years, The American Idol Experience will be coming to a close at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park in January 2015. Our partnership with FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment has been a great addition to the park and we are very appreciative of the amazing cast and guests who have devoted their time and talent to make this experience special and memorable. We are incredibly proud of the more than 2,000 Dream Tickets that have given guests a chance to live their very own Cinderella story and audition for ‘American Idol’. This past season alone, three of the Top 13 contestants were originally discovered through The American Idol Experience and we expect the attraction to continue providing top contestants for ‘American Idol’ XIV in the coming year.”

According to Disneyatwork:

“My sources also suggest that Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is also slated to close at the end of the year. All of this is happening to make way for the major Star Wars additions coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It will surround that end of the Echo Lake corner of the park, and supposedly extend further out as well, though in what direction(s) is uncertain. What is coming in remains to be formally announced, as the attraction is also being tied to a very anticipated follow-up series starting in 2015.”

A Star Wars Land would bring an extra exciting element to the already popular Star Wars Weekends and the new Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend put on by runDisney.

There have also been rumors suggesting WDW will be putting Cars Land in Hollywood studios. This is rumored to be slated to replace the Back Lot Tour and Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area.

What will happen when it all plays out remains to be seen, but this is exciting news as Hollywood Studios is due for some major change as much of the facility is dated.

Typhoon Lagoon At Walt Disney World Turns 25 Years Old Today

typhoon lagoon turns 25

I don’t know which is scarier, the fact that Typhoon Lagoon is 25 years old or that I remember when it opened. Back when Typhoon Lagoon opened, it was one of the first of its kind, a new innovative themed water park that really changed the industry. Serving 2.1 million visitors annually, Typhoon Lagoon is the most visited water park in the world.

The story of Typhoon Lagoon is based on the aftermath of a huge hurricane that hit the area and left the place a mess with boats, fishing gear and other assorted nautical stuff. Typhoon Lagoon is build around the namesake Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool which is the largest in the world with 6′ waves generated every 90 seconds.

Other attractions include the 39 mph speed slide Humunga Kowabunga, three different body slides at Storm Slides, a family raft ride, Gang Plank Falls and Mayday Falls and Keelhaul Falls, two different tube slides.

Typhoon Lagoon is closed each year October – December for its annual refurbishment.
